Greek:                  ἀλλὰ διὰ τοῦτο ἠλεήθην ἵνα ἐν ἐμοὶ πρώτῳ ἐνδείξηται Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς τὴν ἅπασαν μακροθυμίαν πρὸς ὑποτύπωσιν τῶν

                             μελλόντων πιστεύειν ἐπ’ αὐτῷ εἰς ζωὴν αἰώνιον

Translation:          But because of this, I was shown mercy, that in me, the foremost, might display Jesus Christ perfect patience, as a pattern for

                              those being about to believe on Him to life eternal.

NRSV:                   But for that very reason I received mercy, so that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display the utmost patience, making

                              me an example to those who would come to believe in him for eternal life.
